Melanie is a professional sculptor based in Somerset who originally trained as a woodcarver and spent several years working on a wide range of projects from church restoration to carving items for the National Trust shops. She uses wire as a way of form, drawing the shape in the air before developing the sculpture further perhaps with layers of resin or plaster and other materials almost as if adding muscle and soft tissue to the piece.

A free-range childhood in Buckinghamshire and then Somerset created an interest in animals, particularly horses, that has stayed with Melanie throughout adult life and now plays a key part in the sculptures she creates.

She is a well known Tutor among Bruton Art Society’s members and her workshops are always very popular.
